Birch sugar ECO
Organic birch sugar, Xylitol
Xylitol (birch sugar) is a sugar alcohol found in many vegetables, fruits and trees. It is even formed in small amounts in the human body.
Most xylitol is found in birch sap, and production took off during the Second World War in Finland, when there was a shortage of sugar. Today, most xylitol comes either from Finland or from China. The product is in powder form and despite the name is actually completely odorless and it is also easily soluble in water and alcohols. There are both coarse-grained and fine-grained xylitol, depending on the manufacturing method.
Xylitol and dental health
We recognize the xylitol from chewing gums and toothpaste and this is thanks to the fact that many studies have shown that it counteracts caries, raises the pH value in the mouth, can inhibit the growth of certain bacteria and prevent dry mouth.
