Sustainability + local flavor profile = Nordic Chocolate

Since 2013, Jenny Berg has run Nordic Chocolate. It is so far the only chocolate factory in Norrland.

Jenny was only 14 years old when she started visiting chocolate factories in Europe. She therefore understood early on that sustainable and organic cocoa cultivation is of the utmost importance. Partly because it is fairer to those who grow it and is better for the ecosystem that surrounds cocoa cultivation, and partly because it produces a final product that tastes better.

Nordic Chocolate has several projects that show that they are pushing sustainability work to a further level. The packaging is completely plastic-free and instead consists of recycled paper and cellulose from potatoes and beetroot. The cocoa berries are dried in an energy-efficient, fossil-free dryer. Nordic Chocolate is also keen to hire people with different professional backgrounds, which means, among other things, that they like to hire people who have been unemployed for a long time and make them grow.

A lot of Nordic Chocolate's products are flavored to reflect the Nordic taste palette.

- Blueberries from northern Scandinavia also contain more antioxidants thanks to the many hours of sunlight the berries receive under the midnight sun, says Jenny.
