The companies behind the Sustainable Food Chain want to speed up the transition to more sustainable food production in Sweden by 2030. Now WWF and the 15 Swedish food companies behind the initiative have launched a new joint road map until 2030. In the road map, ecological and KRAV-marked designated investments to reach the goals.
Sustainable Food Chain started in 2015 as an initiative to find common solutions for sustainable production and consumption in Sweden. Now the work is being switched up to contribute to reduced climate emissions, more biological diversity, increased resource efficiency, better animal welfare and human rights in a joint roadmap to 2030.
The new roadmap goes by the name "The Swedish handshake for a sustainable food chain". It describes how companies must work to "grow the top" and "lift the bottom" by increasing the proportion of sustainable foods while phasing out less sustainable alternatives.
- We welcome the Sustainable Food Chain's roadmap, which highlights the importance of setting concrete goals and prioritizing to increase the share of organic and KRAV-certified products. It is very positive that organic production is singled out as an important tool in the transition to a sustainable food system, says Charlotte Bladh André, CEO of Organic Sweden.
In the Sustainable Food Chain's model, "growing the top" shows the foods that must increase their share in order for the food chain to become more sustainable. To grow the top, reference is made to the current best and most credible certification systems on the market. It is listed there KRAV-labeled and EU organic at the top among the priority labels that, according to the materiality analysis, can grow to the top.
Sustainable Food Chain has listed KRAV-marked and EU organic at the top among the certifications that, according to the materiality analysis, can grow the top.
- Organic Sweden is already in dialogue with many companies within the Sustainable Food Chain and looks forward to continuing to collaborate so that the share of organic and KRAV-branded products must increase. It is not the least urgent now that development is going in the wrong direction and eco is going backwards, says Ann Freudenthal, chairman of Organic Sweden.
Sweden has lost 100 hectares of organic agricultural land in 000, according to a new report from Ekologiska Lantbrukarna. The reduction is the largest ever and the percentage of organic farmland is now at the same level as in 2014. This leads, among other things, to more chemical pesticides being spread in our nature and the use of climate-damaging artificial fertilizers increasing.
