Carob powder ECO

Organic Carob powder

Around the Mediterranean grows The carob tree and from its seeds are extracted carob. Carob is grown in many parts of southern Europe, and the tree's pods are ground and dried to make a caramel-like flour that many people use as a sweet substitute for cocoa. Before sugarcane and beets were available in Europe, carob was widely used as a sweetener.

The plant is classified as a legume and its fruit resembles a sugar pea and it is the one that is ground down to a powder that becomes carob powder. Carob powder resembles cocoa in every way, but the difference is that it is virtually fat-free, it contains no caffeine and it is said to counteract the sweet tooth.
