Portuguese and Spanish conquerors brought the chili plants from America to Europe around the year 1500. The colonial powers brought the plants to South Asia via Africa. India's fertile climate proved ideal and the newly discovered spice quickly became an integral part of Indian cuisine. Our Indian chili is medium hot. The dark red to reddish brown fruits come from controlled organic cultivation.
