The guarana plant grows naturally in the Amazon jungles and can grow up to 12 meters high. From the sour, red berries, a powder is carefully made that has been used in Brazil for several centuries. The berries are usually used to make tea or as a flavoring in cooking and bread.

The seeds of the guarana plant contain 2-4% of the substance guaranine, which has similar properties to caffeine and can provide an invigorating effect. Therefore, guarana is now often used as an ingredient in energy drinks.
